The gripping tip is mechanically isolated from external disturbances by the low
stiffness flexures from which it is suspended. The purpose in making a floating tip
is to minimize unwanted deflections that would interfere with the tips meeting at
exactly the same point in space when they close. Here the tip is shown in its open
position. The heavy outer beams act as a tweezer to operate the inner fine tweezer
(the floating one) and also protect it from being hit.
